Right at the beginning of the Corona pandemic in the Netherlands, Keith Kornson - creative partner at Dutch digital design agency Ronin - was surprised to find out that there was no fully-functioning central system within the Dutch care administration that could indicate where or when there was a hospital bed available, anywhere in the country. Keith and his agency Ronin, together with Dutch digital design agencies Robot Kittens and Codeam, didn't hesitate for a second, and offered their help and expertise.
They re-designed and upscaled an already existing system - that had not yet been properly integrated within the Dutch hospital network - by developing a user-friendly platform sharing realtime insights and predictions of a hospital's capacity - commissioned by the LCPS (National Coordination Centre for Patient Distribution). Within four days the system was up and running, ready to be used by all hospital in the Netherlands.
The platform shows how busy an emergency department currently is, and predicts how busy it might be over the next two hours. It also details the amount of beds available per department. A fully automatic system: the platform is connected to the hospitals' backend system - manual entries are no longer required.
The Landelijk Platform Zorgcoördinatie (National Platform for Care Coordination) comprises different modules, including a module indicating availability of rooms with or without a ventilator. All modules are easy to understand and use, compatible with tablets, laptops and mobile phones.
Great dashboard design. Comprehensive. Easy-to-use-and-understand. Relevant, not only now but also in the long-term, with regards to sharing information on capacity of hospitals.
