At the end of 2019, Greta Thunberg was elected as 'Person of the Year' by TIME magazine. A decision that gave rise to a lot of emotion across the globe, both positive and negative. At that time Dutch digital creative studio Superhero Cheesecake were looking for a project to further develop their digital skillset, explore the use of cool visual effects, and, generally, try new things, new technologies. They decided to make Greta the subject of their passion project.
The website illustrates the timeline of Greta Thunberg's rise from a solo campaigner to leader of a global movement. The agency used Greta's pose from the cover of TIME magazine as a central piece. Together with Colorbleed, another Dutch agency, they developed a 3D model of this image to bring it to life on the website.
What originally started as a pet project has now been acknowledged by organisations such as The FWA, Communication Arts and Awwwards.
Amazing little interactive, digital experience, technically really well done.
